I was watching tapes of 1956 convention coverage, where supporters of putting strong support in the Convention plank for Brown v Eduacation were stymied by the lodestone of the Southerners at the time. You know, the ilk that was later fed and catered to and nurtured with the Republican's "Southern strategy" that has kept pieces of that lodestone weighing down the country, weighing it down still, and yeah, this time, the Clintons destroyed the moment of progress. All he ever was was Republican-lite anyway, despite you fool conservatives never actually seeing it...Which party had fiscal responsibility under Clinton?  Which one was arresting terrorists for various plots instead of ignoring memoes and warnings and shunting terrorsim to the side? In 1956 it was all being blamed on "northern liberals" [but at least the press didn't interject their (usually wrong) opinions into everything going on, and no one was screaming at the viewer,]
